Rahul Chopra was a talented, beloved political professional and leader in the Democratic Party. He understood and demonstrated the value of mentoring the next generation of political operatives – particularly those of color. We’re proud to stand with Rahul’s family in honoring his legacy through this memorial and continuing to support AAPI campaign managers at Blue Leadership Collaborative’s award winning State Manager Program for years to come.

Rahul was kind, hilarious, and deeply irreverent. His passion for his friends and the people around him was only matched by his love of politics and desire to make this country a better place. He started off his career interning for Senator Dianne Feinstein and Congressman Mike Honda until he found his fit in the world of opposition research, working for American Bridge, Russ Feingold, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (in many roles, including as deputy research director for the independent expenditure), and as research director for Senator Mark Kelly’s campaign.

Most recently, Rahul returned to the DCCC to serve as their research director where he utilized his encyclopedic knowledge of congressional politics and rueful love for the House’s chaos. Rahul was incredibly proud of the diverse and talented team of 40 he built at the DCCC; he reveled in their growth and success. Rahul understood and demonstrated the value of  mentoring the next generation of political operatives – particularly those of color.

On March 11, 2024, Rahul passed away due to undiagnosed diabetes and complications from pneumonia. We hope that his legacy of making space for diverse voices lives on in the work of this program.

Campaign Manager,

Sonali Anand

for Megan Kocher, PA HD-119

Sonali grew up in sunny Southern California where her passion for politics was born. Being a first-generation American with two immigrant parents, she grew up with the ideals of gratitude and appreciation for what you have and for the opportunities given to you. She began her political career in 2022 as the Call Time Manager for then Massachusetts State Senator Sonia Chang-Díaz in her run for Governor, before moving to Georgia to join then State Senator Jen Jordan's run for Attorney General. In 2023 she began working as the Finance Director for the youngest member of Virginia's State House in history, Delegate Nadarius Clark, in the 84th House District. She was promoted to Deputy Campaign Manager and helped Virginia take back the House majority. She is now the Campaign Manager for Anna Thomas in PA’s 137th HD and could not be more excited to flip the seat come November!
